Karen Gadbois has been active in issues related to the recovery of New Orleans specifically the built environment. Her website, Squandered Heritage has chronicled the demolitions of private housing and in the process revealed a number of flawed systems resulting in critical changes to the process.

She lives in Carrollton with her husband, Jon Schooler and their daughter Ida.
