Ruth Davis
Urban Conservancy Board Vice President
Ruth Davis is currently a Community Recovery Specialist with the American Red Cross Hurricane Recovery Program (HRP), based in the 13-parish Southeast Louisiana region. Her focus is on the business community and civic organizations in Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard and Jefferson Parishes. Ruth also served as a Public Affairs Manager with the HRP after serving as a volunteer to Disaster Response Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., and Biloxi-Gulfport, Miss., during the Red Cross responses to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
Prior to Red Cross, Ruth provided contract consulting services for LoganFrancis, a commercial graphic design and communications firm, and served in various management and executive positions with publishing and computer-based technology companies including Capitol Publications (a former subsidiary of Pearson-Longman), OmniPrint, SynQuest Technologies, HealthStream, and Presentation Strategies. Each of these companies started as locally-owned small businesses that grew to varying degrees and/or eventually sold as their exit strategy. She has also served as a marketing consultant on projects for American Health Consultants, TechNews (a Washington Post division), and St. Anthony Publishing.
Ruth has volunteered for various causes and organizations, including teen math tutoring programs in North Carolina, domestic violence shelters in Washington, D.C., and North Carolina, Habitat for Humanity of Northern Virginia, and local disaster response with the Central Maryland Chapter of American Red Cross. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
