Re: Zoning Docket 17/02Dear Ms. Booth,
I am writing today to request that the City Planning Commission deny Zoning Docket 17/02. I support the points the Urban Conservancy has made about the wide variety of advertising media already available and that public spaces, like Carnival, should be free of commercial content.
New Orleans’ unique culture and urban environment is unlike any other in the US. Public art is meant to benefit the greater populace. The proposed text changes to the Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance remove the benefits of murals to the general public and allow private entities to side step the legislation that controls signage. The mural and public art forum is a treasured resource that should not be squandered for the financial benefit of corporate sponsors.
Please reject this intrusion into one of New Orleans most precious resources and deny Zoning Docket 17/02.Thank you for your consideration. I would appreciate it if you would share your opinion with me on this matter.
I await your reply.
Sincerely,
