Restoration 2006: Community and Economic Recovery After a Disaster

May 16-17, 2006

Restoration 2006: Community and Economic Recovery After a Disaster is a new annual conference managed by the International City/County Management Association (ICMA), the National Association of Counties (NACo), and the National League of Cities (NLC), in collaboration with numerous sponsoring partners and cosponsoring organizations. The focus of this event is the sustainable and long term recovery of communities impacted by natural (hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, wildfire) and man-made (terrorism, industrial accidents) disasters. The Urban Conservancy, Civic Economics, Richard Campanella, and others will be a part of the more than 45 educational sessions. Additionally, Restoration 2006 features keynote talks by James Lee Witt, former FEMA director; Ray Suarez, senior correspondent on “The News Hour with Jim Lehrer;” and George Foresman, Under Secretary for Preparedness at the Department of Homeland Security. The conference also features several pre- and post-conference workshops as well as voluntary opportunities for conference goers to spend a day providing some sweat equity for local organizations working to rebuild and restore in the New Orleans area. For more details on the conference program go to www.restoration2006.org .

For organizations based in areas impacted by the storms of 2005, complimentary registration information can be found on the conference homepage.
