INDEPENDENT AMERICA: RISING FROM RUINS
The re-opening of each beloved business after Katrina was cause for celebration and a sigh of relief. Now, Hanson Hosein of HRH Media and Tom Powers of Open Door Communication have produced a documentary that celebrates the courage and resilience of New Orleans’ independent businesses in the face of enormous risk and challenges. Arthur Brocato, Hillary Guttman, owner of Laurel Street Bakery, Roy Zuppardo, and John Besh are some of the local entrepreneurs who eloquently tell their stories from the heart. Reception following film and discussion includes tasty, light fare from all four businesses.
The film is premiering as part of PATOIS: The Sixth Annual New Orleans International Human Rights Film Festival March 26 - April 5, 2009.
This year, PATOIS showcases more than 50 films, 8 world premieres, 20 filmmakers presenting their films, workshops, panels, and live performances by local and national musicians at venues around the city, as well as out in the streets!
Complete schedule information is available at the PATOIS website.
