Jane’s Walk
Saturday, May 2, 2009 | 9 am - 11 am
One walk. Many neighborhoods.
“No one can find what will work for our cities by looking at…suburban garden cities, manipulating scale models, or inventing dream cities, you’ve got to get out and walk.”
—Jane Jacobs
Jane’s Walk honors the legacy and ideas of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs who championed the interests of local residents and pedestrians over a car-centered approach to planning.
It is a coordinated series of free neighborhood walking tours taking place on one day in cities all over the USA and Canada, given by locals who care passionately about where they live, work and play. Jane’s Walk is about raising urban literacy by offering a pedestrian focused event that combines insights into urban history, planning, design and civic engagement with the simple act of walking and observing.
Invite your early-bird Jazz Fest guests to take their “eyes to the street” before they hit the Fairgrounds on May 2! See a complete list of New Orleans walks here.
The New Orleans Institute is coordinating the New Orleans walks. For more information, contact Ariella Cohen, ariellascohen@gmail.com
