Military in Bywater - A Poem

Bywater is usually a quiet neighborhood
becomes noisy when the
Marines run thru Bywater at 7:22AM almost daily
shouting war slogans
waking residents
breaking the noise ordinance
and have no parade permit.

Marines marching in Bywater

And the city council does nothing about it.
In this is artists’ neighborhood touting gentility
Artists often work at nite.
To be awakened at 7:22AM interferes with their sleep and their work
No one wants to live in residences where artistic and creative work
cannot flourish.
Military threatens to lower property values
