NEW ORLEANS — One of the first new big businesses to officially open in Mid-City will be greeted Wednesday by Mayor C. Ray Nagin.

The new flooring company will be greeted by other local officials, including Nagin, who will detail how many residents have returned to Mid-City, how many businesses have reopened and how many employees hired since Katrina.

The new business called Floor de Lis will sell carpet, wood, laminate, ceramic, vinyl and rugs at 3803 Toulouse St. next to American Can Co.

The business owners also own neighboring Toulouse Gourmet Catering and Pel Hughes Printing, said spokesman Steve Schulkens. The three companies will employ a total of 100 people.

“This business will bring customers and employees into an area that needs recovery,” said Schulkens. “It will also bring needed tax revenues to this struggling city’s coffers.”
