First School to Reopen in Ninth Ward

NEW ORLEANS — The first school is set to reopen in the Ninth Ward around the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School for Science and Technology is scheduled to reopen in the fall.

Officials said more than 600 students are registered.

During Katrina, 30 of the school’s students and family members died.
