NEW ORLEANS — Inspector General Robert Cerasoli has been given deadlines for much-needed office equipment following City Council President Arnie Fielkow’s meeting with Mayor C. Ray Nagin’s Chief Administration Office.

Fielkow; Kevin Wildes, chairman of the Ethics Review Board; and CAO personnel Courtney Bagneris and Jay Palestina met Friday to discuss the need for office equipment and personnel for Cerasoli, the city’s first inspector general.

Fielkow said CAO personnel assured that computers and phones for immediate hires would be available in two weeks and additional computers and phones for all staff would be available within 30 to 45 days.

“It is time to get the Office of Inspector General fully staffed and operational so that it can begin to do its job,” Fielkow said. “Our city has important issues that must be addressed by the inspector general sooner rather than later, and we cannot afford to wait any longer for bureaucratic issues to be worked out. Friday’s meeting was very productive and I am optimistic that we put procedures in place to address any present and future logjams.”

In addition, CAO personnel agreed to provide written monthly status reports to the New Orleans City Council Budget Committee on the status of the IG’s office. Also, CAO personnel were designated as point persons to address issues the IG’s office brings to the city regarding logistical needs.
