Christy Williams
StayLocal Program Assistant

Christy Williams’ work with the Urban Conservancy and Stay Local began more than 15 years ago, when, as a small business owner recovering from Hurricane Katrina she was determined to build her business back alongside other independent business owners. She found solidarity in the community of business owners united as StayLocal.
The Urban Conservancy recognized Christy’s tenacity, resolve, and entrepreneurial spirit with a Most Resilient Business award in 2007. Christy’s education-based business, Teacher’s Stop, combines her business skill with decades of experience both teaching in area schools and collaborating with school teachers to provide students a wide variety of well-evaluated learning tools.
Christy holds a Masters of Curriculum and Instruction from University of New Orleans and a Bachelor of Science with a Certificate in Early Childhood Education from Loyola University New Orleans.
As her commitment to the Urban Conservancy’s core values of action, equity, sustainability, a holistic approach and strong local economy increased, so did her participation in the organization. Over the years she’s actively served on the board and been a StayLocal ambassador to the community, promoting the online directory of certified locally-owned businesses, and assisting with increasing membership.
She has recently joined the staff as a program assistant with a primary focus on counseling minority-owned businesses.
