Your Support Makes Our Work Possible
Thank you for helping to make New Orleans more walkable, bikeable and livable in 2014. With your support over the last year:
- UC partnered with its initiative Stay Local! to research and publish reports on place-based economics, including the 2014 New Orleans Independent Business Trends report and the 2014 Magazine Street study;
- UC convened Invest Local Day, a round-table, one-on-one mentoring sessions, and public symposium on community capital facilitated by nationally renowned economists and attorneys Michael Shuman and Jenny Kassan;
- UC supported organizations and traditional commercial corridors throughout the city with technical assistance on key projects;
- UC secured funding and technical support to provide, Building Active Stewardship in New Orleans (BASIN), our environmental stewardship program, for sixty third graders at Dibert Elementary at Phillis Wheatley in the Treme neighborhood;
- UC advocated effectively and continued educating the community on best practices and current issues related to the urban fabric, specifically the impacts of excessive paving on our storm water management capacity;
- UC served on the Lafitte Greenway Steering Advisory Committee which has helped guide the 2.6 mile Rails-to-Trails project, the Lafitte Greenway, to a projected completion date of June 2015;
- UC was a convening member of the Greater New Orleans Water Collaborative’s interim steering committee. The Water Collaborative is a group of individuals, organizations, and communities working to address critical water issues throughout New Orleans and the greater region. Our work is guided by the vision and principles of the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan to develop a vision for a safer and more beautiful city built upon sustainable water management. In the 2014 Good City Index, the formation of the Water Collaborative was dubbed the “Defining Moment” this year in New Orleans;
- UC participated in over 30 conferences and meetings with state and local government representatives, businesses, and NGOs to expand on earlier work and to represent UC’s positions on sustainable land use and the local economy;
With your continued support, we look forward to what we will accomplish together to make the next decade the best one yet for your neighborhood, our organization, and all the communities of Southeast Louisiana.
