Biz New Orleans: Study – Residential GSI Key to New Orleans Climate Resilience

The Urban Conservancy recently unveiled new survey results indicating that homeowners can significantly diminish flooding, reduce runoff to catch basins, and mitigate the impacts of extreme heat and drought by implementing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) such as rain gardens, rain barrels, and permeable paving systems. The survey, conducted among over one hundred participants in the Front Yard Initiative who completed residential green infrastructure projects between 2015 and 2022, also reveals high levels of long-term homeowner satisfaction with the installations. The findings emphasize the effectiveness and economic benefits of properly installed residential green infrastructure in enhancing community safety and quality of life, addressing flood risks, and adapting to a changing climate. The Urban Conservancy hosted an online QA session on Thursday, Jan 11 which can be viewed below.
